Author of the Week: Carla Pennington

Purchase at Amazon.com

A&RBC: How did you become a writer?
Carla: When I’m asked that question, I get tickled because of the answer I will give. My mom says I was born with a pen and pad in hand. Although we all know that’s impossible, I feel there is some truth to it. I was always the kid in the house with my nose and eyes inside of a book or scribbling on paper. I missed out on a lot of childhood games because of my fascination with words.

A&RBC: Where does your inspiration for your characters come from?
Carla: I get my inspiration for my characters from myself, friends, family and even people that I meet on the street. I’m a people watcher. People are funny and interesting. I’ll sit at restaurants, clubs, park, stop light, etc and watch the actions of people around me. It’s amazing how my imagination can take off from something so simple.

A&RBC: What are you hoping readers take from your book?
Carla: I hope readers take from the book that it’s not a good idea to be an “available wife.” LOL! Seriously, I want readers to realize that whatever is done in the dark always bursts through the light. Secrets hurt and destroy.

A&RBC:  If you were to write a book about a controversial topic, what would it be?
Carla: Adultery. I’d like to get into the minds of adulterers and try to understand why they do what they do. It would be fun to hear the different stories.

A&RBC: Most writers have a process or method for writing their books, what is yours?
Carla: I really don’t have a process. I just do what feels right and excites me.

A&RBC: What is your favorite genre of books?
Carla: I grew up reading Harlequin novels. If I had to choose a genre that I enjoy, it would be romance. I love “love” and “romance.”

A&RBC:  Are you an avid or occasional reader?
Carla: When I was younger, I used to be an avid reader. From dusk ‘til dawn, I was in a book. Now, I read occasionally. Writing as well as other things, mainly my children, requires most of my attention.

A&RBC: What are two things you want your readers to know about you?
Carla: There’s one thing that I would like readers to know about me. When I was 19-years-old, I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). It’s a battle having this illness living with me, but I always come out on top. I love life too much to let it get in my way.

A&RBC:  If you could interview one of your favorite authors, who would it be? Why?
Carla: Danielle Steele! I love her books turned movies and would love to ask her how in the world has she kept it fresh and going after all these years.

A&RBC: What is or was your dream job?
Carla: This is a tricky question because I don’t have a dream job. Being an author is not a job to me. It’s a gift that comes with a lot of great perks. LOL!

A&RBC: What new projects are you working on?
Carla: I just completed “The Available Wife part 2.” Now, I’m sprucing up a few more novels that I had to set to the side to finish TAW2. It’s fun working on 2, 3, or 4 things at one time.

A&RBC: Where can readers find you?
Carla: I’m currently working on a web page but in the mean time readers can find me on Facebook: CarlaPennington. I’m under the same name on Twitter but I’m a dunce to that social network so Facebook me!
