Nicole's choices in men has gotten her into trouble in Dripping Chocolate by Keith Thomas Walker. Nicole's boyfriend Byron can't take no for an answer. Nicole understands that ending their relationship was the best thing she could have done, but Bryon is not taking the break up well. After her ordeal with Byron, Nicole has given up on finding love until her friends throw her a birthday party at a strip club.

Charles has recently gotten out of jail after doing a four year bid and he is determined to change his ways. Charles takes a job at a local strip club to make ends meet and on his first night dances for a woman he can't stop thinking about. After running into Nicole at a store, Charles recognizes the attraction between the two of them and decides to act on it. Charles is happy that Nicole feels the same way and the two start dating. Charles has baggage but so does Nicole. However, Charles believes they can make the relationship work.

Nicole's friends start fussing with her about dating a stripper and this soon stumbles into Nicole's relationship. Having thought it would not be a problem in the beginning has started to bug Nicole as their relationship progresses. On the other hand, Nicole's ex-boyfriends also starts to cause the couple problems. Will Nicole and Charles be able to work through their obstacles?

This author seems to amaze me with every book that he writes. Dripping Chocolate was not only a love story but also a suspense thriller. The twists in the story caught me by surprise but also made me want to find out what the characters would do next. The author created some colorful characters that go through everyday problems but bring life to the storyline that will capture readers attention until the end. I definitely recommend Dripping Chocolate to others.

Playing Dirty Mind Games

Playing Dirty Mind Games

Louise Payne

Publication Date: February 8, 2012

3 Logos= Fair Page Turner

Sydney Henderson is dealing with a warped sense of reality in Playing Dirty Mind Games by Louise Payne. Sydney has a personality disorder that landed her in a mental health clinic. After being released, Sydney's personalities are fighting to take over her life. Sydney is having a hard time controlling them and soon turns to destructive behavior.

Sydney's sister, Naomi has tried to help Sydney the best way she knows how and that is giving her a place to stay. Naomi is pregnant and does not want Sydney's mental condition to affect her life with her man, Judas. Judas is trying to make his mark in the drug game but his love for women seems to keep getting in the way. Naomi does not agree with his choice of profession, which becomes a problem in their relationship. Will Naomi and Judas keep it together? Will Sydney be able to stand on her own?

The mind can play tricks on you and this was not evident in Playing Dirty Mind Games. This was an interesting book to read, but I wanted to know more about Sydney. This character's disorder was not present enough in the storyline for me. The transitions in the story confused me at times and this made it hard to relate to the characters. I believe with professional editing this could be a good book.

The Face Within

SJ Blenman

Publication Date: August 21, 2012

3 Logos= Fair Page Turner

A chance meeting changes the lives of two individuals in The Face Within by SJ Blenman. Dean Richards was getting off work when he comes across a domestic argument between a couple. Dean helps the woman by breaking up the situation and then escorting the woman home. Dean's Good Samaritan act lands him in bed sheets and thinking about the woman and if she would be worth his efforts.

Clarissa Morgan is once again in an argument with her boyfriend Lewis. The argument gets out of hand causing a man to stop and help Clarissa. The instant attraction turns Clarissa on and she can't help herself. Dean becomes a fixture in Clarissa life but she doesn't share a lot about her personal life with him. Clarissa is living a secret life and once revealed will Dean still hang around?

The Face Within is a suspenseful thriller that connects two strangers in an unsuspected event. The main character is mysterious but also spontaneous, which gives the story its thrill factor especially once readers find out her true profession. This book had a slow start but once it picked up kept my interest until the end. On the other hand, the book did have some grammatical errors that did not take away from the storyline. I do recommend The Face Within to others.

Miss Scandalous is about family, secrets and revenge. The main character allows her anger and need for revenge to take over, which hinders the love that everyone around tries to give. The author does a wonderful job allowing readers to see the progression in Raven’s behavior. Lost  Ones
Zenobia

3 Stars= Fair Page Turner

In Lost Ones by Zenobia readers are introduced to the Reid family, a family with secrets and bad habits. Katherine Reid has been putting up with her husband, Dexter’s infidelity for far too long. When Katherine learns of another one of his hidden secrets, she realizes it is time for her to starting thinking about herself and she knows just what to do. I guess there is only one way to find out.
Dexter and Katherine’s daughters, Sasha and Taylor, are moving onto the college life. These twin sisters are like night and day. Taylor is pursuing a career in the medical field while maintaining her good girl status with her father. Taylor is not all that innocent and is easily persuaded. Sasha on the other hand, is the naughty twin who convinces her parents to send her to fashion school in New York. Sasha believes she is going to take the big apple by storm but is in for a big surprise. When Sasha starts looking for love, will she find it in the right place? Sasha’s track record is not looking so good. Will Sasha be able to change her ways?
Lost Ones is about a dysfunctional family. This book had drama, secrets and backstabbing that will keep readers attention. However, there were too many points of view, which made the transitions in the story confusing. I also felt some of the subplots could stand alone. Don’t get me wrong the characters were interesting and readers will be able to relate to them. I just wanted the story to focus more on Dexter, Katherine and their children. I would have liked to see Katherine’s sisters have their own book. I do recommend Lost Ones to others.

Change Beyond The Pain

Monifa Robinson Groover

Publication Date: January 30, 2012

5 Stars= None Stop Page Turner

Change Beyond The Pain by Monifa Robinson Groover was written for those seeking guidance, change and new beginnings. This eight-chaptered book of transformation will have readers re-evaluating their lives. This book is a guide to having a closer relationship to God.
Each chapter is a source of inspiration that will hit home with each reader. My favorite chapters were three, four and six. Chapter three explains how to be patient and wait on Him. He may not come when you want him but He always shows up right on time. Chapter four explains that everything is not about you and that we need to learn our place. Being selfish hinders the blessings He has for you. Chapter six explains about faith and believing that God knows what is best for you. Having faith will allow you to accept God’s plan for your life.
Change Beyond The Pain has been one of the best inspirational and self-help books I have read in a while. The author does a wonderful combining scripture with lessons that are thought provoking and therapeutic. Lync decides to attend college and finds that it is a good place to set up shop, especially since her roommate is all in. After a short time, Lync has to come home when things get out of control and lands Quan in the hospital fighting for his life. Lync loves Quan and is by his side. While there she has an altercation with his mother that has Lync questioning her father. When the truth is revealed it causes major damage in Lync and Quan’s relationship. After her father’s murder Lync is next in line to take over her father’s business and learns that there are more skeletons in the closest. Will Lync decide to take over? Or will she ignore her call in becoming the Heiress To The Throne?
Heiress To The Throne is about a daughter learning to become the thug her father trained to her to be. The author does a wonderful job in portraying the roles in the drug game while still having developed characters that readers will be able to relate to. In the drug game realizing that you are very much touchable is the best way to stay alive and these characters learn this the hard way. I liked the progression of the main character that is to step into her father’s shoes without realizing that she was also stepping into the dangers her father was in to. This book had drama, secrets, betrayal and was entertaining. I recommend Heiress To The Throne to others.

This book provides needed information for those struggling in their relationship with God and or life. I applaud the author for sharing scripture as a helping tool in understanding the subject matter. However, I believe the scriptures took over the book and did not leave room for actually experiences. I would have preferred to read more of the author’s experiences and stories as it related to the different chapters. This will not stop me from reading this authors work and I do recommend others to read the book to form their own opinion.
